Visits to Pearl Lagoon

The beautiful community Pearl Lagoon lies about 45 minutes in panga (a boat) outside of Bluefields. It is the largest afrodescendent community here in RAAS. The majority that lives here is Creol, but you also find Miskitos and Garifonas.

The 25th and 26th of january we had activities with JENH in Pearl Lagoon. The project Run For Food includes giving presentations to youth in the different communities about the themes violence against women, alcohol and drug abuse and sexual reproductive health rights. Our audience this time was the youth that works with JENH in Pearl Lagoon.

After the presentations we went to give out food to families in the community together with JENH. But we barerly could keep up with them, as they worked fast and were really committed to the work. They are a group of about 20 youth, and it was good to meet them and see how they engage themself in different activities.

The next they we went with them to Awas to have a picnic. We played volleyball, basketball, baded in the sea and ate turtle for lunch! It was a good experience to get to do something social with the youth in JENH, and there is no doubt that this ar youth that is willing to make an effort in their work with JENH.

During one of the presentations we gave to JENH. This one about violence against women with special focus on the new law 779 that stresses violence against women. This is a new law in Nicaragua that consists of various new aspects of violence that have not been considered violence before.
